The Glencree and Avoca Tour
We collect you from your hotel and we take you to the Glencree Reconciliation Centre, a former 18th Century British Army Barracks now used as a centre to promote peace. We also take you to the nearby German Military Cemetery, the burial site of many German airmen shot down and sailors whose ships were sunk in the First and Second World Wars.
We take you through the Sally Gap, you will see wild heather, mountain rivers, lakes and barren boglands which were the scenery used in many blockbuster films such as Excalibur, Braveheart and P.S. I Love You.
Stopping at the Meeting of the Waters in Avoca. It is here that the Avonmore River and the Avonbeg River meet hence its name. It is also the location where famed Irish poet Thomas Moore penned his famous Irish melody “The Meeting of the Waters”.
We remain here to have lunch.*
Onto the village of Avoca, the location for the BBC drama series “Ballykissangel”. Walk around this traditional Irish village. Maybe go for a pint of the “Black Stuff” (Guinness) in “Fitzgerald’s” or whatever takes your fancy.*
• Craft shopping in Avoca Handweavers, the mill of which dates back to 1723 and is said to be the oldest extant manufacturer in Ireland. *
• After a day full of “Craic” we return you back safely to your hotel.
